Ardy van Helvoort received a degree in biology from Wageningen University and obtained his PhD in cell biology from the Faculty of Medicine, Utrecht University, the Netherlands in 1996. He worked as a researcher at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam till 1999, and then joined Numico Research in the Netherlands where he was responsible for various (pre)clinical research projects. In 2008, he became the Research Director Disease Targeted Nutrition for oncology, COPD, HIV, renal failure and diabetes. From 2011 to 2014 he was responsible for the Asian R&D activities for Medical Nutrition. Since then he has been leading the life science platforms on Nutrition, Muscle and Neuroscience for Danone Nutricia Research and as of 2019 the Growth and Metabolism team. He published more than 80 full papers and patents.

I am an Associate Professor in Therapeutic Nutrition in the Division of Human Nutrition, Department of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. I have worked in the field of nutritional sciences for over 17 years. Since my appointment at Stellenbosch University in 2008 I have actively pursued my research interest in Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition, the gut microbiome, breastmilk, and body composition. I have published my research in national and international journals. I am a member of the International Society for Research in Human Milk and Lactation (ISRHML) (where I have served on several committees) and The Allergy Society of South Africa. I also serve as an editorial board member for Breastfeeding Medicine and reviews for national and international journals. I am active in various committees/working groups. My research findings have led to the development of a medical device for which a South African provisional patent application has been filed for this application. Funding awards have been received by the National Research Foundation, the Medical Research Council, Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), University Technology Fund (UTF), Early Career Development and other.

Michiel P. van Wijk MD, PhD, pediatric gastroenterologist, is staff member of the Emma Children's Hospital / Amsterdam UMC in the Netherlands. He cares for patients with a broad range of GI-disorders, with a clinical focus on motility disorders and esophageal diseases and is involved in optimising care for patients with rare esophageal diseases such as esophageal atresia, eosinophilic esophagitis and achalasia. After finishing his PhD thesis, entitled: "Pediatric gastroesophageal reflux and upper gastrointestinal tract motility : the use of multichannel intraluminal impedance and high resolution manometry" in 2010, he kept a special scientific interest in motility testing in children, especially in patients with eosinophilic esophagitis, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, esophageal atresia and achalasia. He is board member of the ESPGHAN working groups on pediatric motility and esophageal atresia and is visiting professor at the KU Leuven, where he is involved in the master program for deglutology.

Yvan Vandenplas did his medical studies at the ”Vrije Universiteit Brussel” (Free University of Brussels) and trained in pediatrics (1981 1986) at the same University. He became Head of the Unit for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in 1987 and created the Pediatric Hospital, the KidZ Health Castle, at the Univerity Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel) of the same university, where he had the Chair of Pediatrics since 1994 up to 2021. He is now Prof. Emeritus and consultant at the same hospital. He has over 500 publications listed in Medline among which many papers on infant nutrition. He is associate editor of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and Nutrients.

I have been working in the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Department in Hospital Infantil Universitario Niño Jesús (Madrid) since 2017, where I am part of the staff of the Pediatric IBD Care Unit. This Unit participates in several international clinical trials in which I contribute as both sub and principal investigator. I finished my Ph.D. program at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in December 2019 with my research project entitled "Determination of normal levels of Fecal Calprotectin in Healthy Children". Henkjan Verkade is a paediatric gastroenterologist/hepatologist at the Beatrix Children’s Hospital of the University Medical Centre Groningen, the Netherlands. He obtained his PhD in Medicine cum laude at the University of Groningen on the thesis titled ‘Lipid absorption and metabolism’. Prof. Verkade was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. In 2005, he was appointed as Professor of Paediatrics (Gastroenterology/Hepatology) at the University Medical Centre Groningen. Prof. Verkade combines clinical work in paediatric gastroenterology/hepatology with clinical and fundamental research projects. His current research projects involve intestinal lipid absorption and metabolism, enterohepatic circulation and paediatric liver disease (familial cholestatic syndromes, biliary atresia, liver transplantation). Prof. Verkade initiated the global NAPPED registry (NAtural course and Prognosis of PFIC and Effect of biliary Diversion) in 2017, alongside Dr Bettina Hansen, and the prospective global TreatFIC database in 2022. The NAPPED registry has been helpful to further characterise the natural history of progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis syndromes and identify prognostic parameters for the course of disease and responsiveness to treatment. Prof. Verkade has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications and more than 15 book chapters. Since 2019, he has been Associate Editor of the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition.

studied Biology at Utrecht University, The Netherlands and did my PhD on characterization of hematopoietic stem cells at the Erasmus MC. After my first post doc position, I was employed as a Marie Curie Fellow in Hannover, Germany. Since 2013 I am assistant professor at the department Surgery, Erasmus MC. I am specifically interested in basic and translational research for stem cell characterization, liver disease, including liver cancer and liver regeneration and have an extended network of collaborators in this field. Using my expertise in cancer (stem) cell biology, matrix biology, liver disease modeling and liver organoid technology, I am involved in developing and utilizing organoid technology in liver regeneration, liver cancer and tissue engineering. I am coordinating courses for PhD Research schools and Minor programs, and teach medical, clinical technology, and nanobiology students and I am guest lecturer at the Technical University Delft.
