I'm a Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Nutritionist, since 1999 a member of the European Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) and of the Pediatric Task force on European Helicobacter pylori Study Group (EHPSG) then the ESPGHAN special interest group (SIG) on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and the ESPGHAN-SIG on eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGID). My major research areas are Helicobacter pylori infection in children, eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) in children as well as food allergy in children (cow's milk allergy), and infantile nutrition.

Dr. Karpen is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Training Program in the Division of Neonatology at Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, in Atlanta, GA. She has been a practicing neonatologist for nearly 25 years in Level III and IV NICUs at Yale University and Baylor College of Medicine before coming to Emory in 2011. She has been active in all three pillars of academics: research, medical education and clinical care and has authored numerous publications on nutrition, breastmilk, medical education and quality improvement. Her research has been focused on nutrition, breastmilk and breastfeeding and their roles during intestinal rehabilitation in infants with acquired and congenital gastrointestinal disorders. She is also an active member of the Children’s Hospital Neonatal Consortium Gastroschisis, Breastmilk and Intestinal Rehabilitation Groups which focus on quality improvement methods for Level IV NICU patients. She is currently working to establish the first non-profit donor milk bank for the state of Georgia.

Arthur Kaser is Principal Investigator at the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease. He has been the inaugural Professor of Gastroenterology at the University of Cambridge, and Honorary Consultant Gastroenterologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital since 2011. Funded by the Wellcome Trust and European Research Council, his laboratory has discovered key mechanisms of inflammatory bowel disease, including a biochemical one that has challenged fundamental principles of central purine metabolism. Arthur is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences, one of the four national academies of the United Kingdom, and a member of the Henry Kunkel Society. Arthur was the Founding Chair of the Research Board of United European Gastroenterology (UEG), and from 2014-2020 Associate Editor of Gut responsible for IBD and mucosal immunology. Arthur qualified from Leopold Franzens University Innsbruck in 1996, and held previous posts in Innsbruck, Austria, and at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA.
