Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition
I am a pediatric gastroenterologist and hepatologist focusing on liver diseases and transplantation. After my pediatric training in Bern Switzerland, I completed a 3 year pediatric GI and an additional one-year transplant fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. After my speciality training, I returned to my home city and alma mater in Munich, established a pediatric liver transplant program, and took over the division head position in 2020. My research interest lies in improving the overall outcomes for children with GI and liver diseases, establishing novel and objective biomarkers such as sarcopenia and frailty to early identify those children with the highest need for interventions and pre-habilitation, treatment options for children with cholestasis, as well as pediatric non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and potential minimal invasive endoscopic bariatric procedures, to avoid long term comorbidities and improve quality of life.
