Tras licenciarme en Veterinaria por la Facultad Española de Veterinaria de Zaragoza en 1984 me incorporé como profesor ayudante a la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, eran tiempos difíciles, estaba comenzando la Facultad de Veterinaria y debíamos concentrar los esfuerzos en la labor docente. Tras leer la tesis sobre odontología veterinaria en 1988, conseguimos el primer artículo con índice de impacto en 1989 y en 1990 publicamos los resultados de la tesis en revistas indexadas. Desde el principio tuvimos la inquietud en la clínica veterinaria, en la docencia y en la cirugía experimental. En este último campo hemos trabajado conjuntamente con profesionales de la medicina humana en el trasplante hepático, abrimos una línea de investigación sobre anestesia y cirugía en el feto cuyo rendimiento fue muy fructífero con cuatro tesis doctorales y numerosos artículos científicos en revistas de primer cuartil como Veterinary Journal que me han permitido disponer del máximo número de tramos de investigación dentro de los profesores de Universidad española dedicados a la cirugía veterinaria. Otros proyectos en los que hemos trabajado siempre financiados han sido estrategias para el tratamiento de la diabetes donde planteamos técnicas quirúrgicas para un nuevo tratamiento, fruto del cual obtuvimos un artículo en la prestigiosa revista Diabetes. Otro campo donde trabajamos fue la cirugía prostática para la localización de marcadores tumorales. En el momento actual y apostando por las nuevas tecnologías, trabajamos en un grupo de investigación relacionado con la aplicación de técnicas ablativas basadas en energía, con proyectos financiados desde 2012 del que se han conseguido numerosas publicaciones, siempre con buen índice de impacto. El desarrollo de la profesión veterinaria y mi labor docente siempre han ido de la mano, conseguí la catedra de Medicina y Cirugía Animal de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona en 2007 tras esa fecha fui director del Departamento de Medicina y Cirugía de la UAB durante seis años y siempre he pensado que no puedes ser buen docente de cirugía sino participas en la labor hospitalaria. Soy jefe del servicio de cirugía de la Fundación Hospital Clinic Veterinari perteneciente a la Fundación UAB, cuyo primer objetivo es la docencia, en esta institución he participado desde su creación en anestesia, cirugía y odontología de pequeños animales, institución que recibe principalmente casos de referencia y que está siempre funcionando 24/24 7/7 Mis principales inquietudes se centran en la cirugía de tejidos blandos, principalmente la oncológica y también la cirugía maxilofacial. En el hospital participo al menos dos días a la semana y siempre compaginando la labor docente con la labor asistencial. Fruto de ello y además de la formación quirúrgica de todos los estudiantes que han salido de la Facultad de Veterinaria de la UAB ha sido la publicación de numerosos artículos clínicos en revistas como Veterinary Record, Veterinary Anaesthesia, VCOT, Veterinary Internal Medicine, PLoS One o JAVMA Creo que el objetivo de la Universidad no sólo es crear veterinarias y veterinarios sino también mejorar el nivel de los profesionales que ya están ejerciendo, por ello hace más de 20 años que creamos el posgrado en cirugía y anestesia de pequeños animales de la Universidad Autónoma, habiendo ayudado a mejorar en estas disciplinas a más de 3000 colegas entre España, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Colombia y Costa Rica. Esta inquietud en mejorar el nivel de los profesionales la contagié al resto de los docentes del Departamento de Medicina y Cirugía de la UAB y creamos el máster en clínica de pequeños animales que gracias a su versión on line tiene seguidores por todo el mundo y que trata de las disciplinas más habituales de la clínica veterinaria y que está impartido por los profesores que trabajamos a diario en el Hospital Clínic Veterinario de nuestra Universidad. Sin duda el mayor reto diario es mejorar la profesión veterinaria, inculcándoles a nuestros estudiantes la pasión por nuestro trabajo y transmitir todos nuestros conocimientos a las nuevas generaciones.

Asistente a diversos cursos y pasantías de especialización en ecografía veterinaria. Con capacidad para el diagnóstico ecográfico de patologías en animales menores. Actualmente laborando de manera independiente y exclusiva en el diagnostico ecográfico.

Dr. Frederic Gaschen is a graduate of the University of Bern, Switzerland. After a few years in mixed practice, he trained as a veterinary internist in North America (Ontario Veterinary College, Canada, and University of Florida, USA). He is a specialist in small animal internal medicine and a Diplomate of both the American and the European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVM and ECVIM-CA). After teaching for 15 years at his alma mater, he moved to Louisiana where he is currently a professor and chief of small animal medicine at Louisiana State University. Frederic has a passion for canine and feline gastroenterology. He was recently named a Fellow of the American Gastroenterology Association. Frederic has directed research and published on chronic enteropathies of the dog, the digestive motility of dogs and cats, and the influence of antibiotics on the microbiome in dogs and cats. He loves to share his passion with his students at LSU and with colleagues at congresses worldwide. He has been involved in professional associations for many years. Currently, he is co-Chair of the WSAVA Scientific Committee in charge of the scientific program of the annual WSAVA Congresses.

Lorrie received her DVM from the University of Florida, was in private practice in Florida for two years after which time she did a diagnostic imaging residency at the University of Bern in Switzerland and became a diplomat of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. She received her PhD in renal transplant imaging in animal models at the University Medical School in Utrecht then returned to the University of Bern where she became an associate professor upon completion of her work in vascular ultrasound of the canine gastrointestinal tract. She has been a professor of diagnostic imaging in the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, Dept. of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for 15 years and has authored publications and book chapters mainly in the field of gastrointestinal ultrasound where she has done the majority of her research. Lorrie was the executive associate dean at LSU for 6 years in the field of diversity, and student and faculty affairs. She received the 2022 AAVMC award for Excellence in Diversity in Veterinary Medicine. She is now a teleradiologist at VetCT.

Dr Jerzy Paweł Gawor (1966) graduated in April 1992. He received his PhD in 1996. Since January 2009 Fellow Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. In 2015 successfully completed requirements and became Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) and European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC). At present Dr Gawor provides dental teaching services in European School of Advanced Veterinary Studies in Europe and Asia.

Dr. Antonio Giuliano graduated from the University of Messina in 2007. While working in general practice, he completed a master's degree in Small Animal Oncology from the University of Pisa, a post graduate certificate in cancer therapeutic at Barts Cancer Institute and the GpCert (SAM) in internal medicine. He completed a general rotating internship in a busy referral practice in UK and an oncology internship and residency at the Queen Veterinary School Teaching Hospital (QVSH), at the University of Cambridge. After successfully completing the residency, he worked for one year as oncology clinician and supervisor at the QVSH. In the 2019 he moved to Hong Kong (HK) working as oncologist at CityU VMC, the largest multidisciplinary referral Hospital in HK and in 2021 became Associate Clinical professor in Oncology at the Jockey Club Colledge of Veterinary Medicine, City University of HK. Dr Antonio Giuliano is a recognized European, RCVS and HK specialist in Companion Animals (Oncology). He published numerous articles in international peer reviewed journals and presented his research in many international conferences.

Ricardo Grandez Rodríguez, Doctor in Veterinary Medicine from UNMSM; Small Animal Medicine Specialist and Master in Small Animal Medicine from UPCH. Associate professor in the School of Veterinary Medicine in UPCH and adjunct lecturer in URP in the areas of small animal medicine and imagenology. Lecturer in Graduate programs in FAVEZ-UPCH, FMVZ-UCSUR, UPG-FMV-UNMSM in the areas of small animal medicine and imagenology. Research publications in small animal medicine and imagenology; exotic and wild animal imagenology and superior education teaching.

Dr. Tamara Grubb, a Texas A&M graduate, is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia & Analgesia with a strong focus in pain management. She owns an anesthesia/analgesia & continuing education consulting practice which serves both small and large animals. Dr. Grubb is a national/international educator and lecturer, a certified acupuncturist, an Adjunct Professor of Anesthesia & Analgesia and the President-Elect of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM). She is co-author of two books, including ‘Veterinary Anesthesia & Pain Management for Nurses & Technicians’. Dr. Grubb’s favorite achievement is winning the Distinguished Teaching Award at two Universities.

Luca received his DVM from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pisa (Italy) in 1994. He developed his career as a microbiologist in Denmark, where he completed his PhD in Veterinary Microbiology at the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in 2000 and became Professor at the University of Copenhagen in 2012. Since 2018 he also works part-time for the Royal Veterinary College in the UK. Luca is a proficient researcher in clinical and public health microbiology with over 200 peer-reviewed publications. His main areas of expertise are antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial therapy in animals. He is a pioneer of antimicrobial stewardship in small animal veterinary medicine and participates in numerous national and international working groups dedicated to development of clinical guidelines for rational antimicrobial use. Among his honorary offices, Luca is the chair of the Therapeutic Guidelines Group in the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), vice-chair of the Scientific Advisory Board in the Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR), and Science Officer of the Veterinary Microbiology Group in the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
