Sabine Schäfer-Somi was born the 21st of May 1966 in Germany (Essen; G). She became an Austrian citizen in 1984, started her studies in veterinary medicine in the same year and graduated in 1991. In 1993, she finished her studies as DVM. Since 1994 she is working at the Clinic for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna as a university assistant. Even though trained in all fields of animal reproduction, she always favoured small animal reproduction. In 2002, she became Diplomate of the European College of Animal Reproduction (Dipl. ECAR). In 2004 she became an Assistency Professor and habilitated in 2006. At present she is working as a veterinarian, university lecturer and scientist at the Platform for Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. She is mainly responsible for the area “Reproduction and Gamete Conservation in Small Animals” and within this field cooperates and publishes with an excellent international group of specialists. Special fields of interest are spermatology, cryopreservation of gametes, artificial insemination, immunology of pregnancy and the neonates, neonatology, and contraception.

Dr. Gabriela Seiler is a graduate of the University of Bern in Switzerland where she also completed a Doctoral Thesis and a residency in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. After being boarded as a Diplomate of the ECVDI, she took a Clinical Instructor, followed by an Assistant Professor position at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, USA. From there, she accepted a tenure track position at NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina where she currently is a Professor of Radiology. Dr. Seiler is actively involved in resident and student teaching, clinical work using all imaging modalities, and research predominantly involving diagnostic ultrasound.

Dr. Galia Sheinberg is a small animal veterinarian specialized in dermatology, working as a full-time clinician in Mexico City. She is head and co-owner of the dermatology department in Centro Veterinario Mexico, a referral veterinary specialty hospital and a recently inaugurated dermatology specialty clinic. She is a graduate of Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, where she completed her Veterinary degree and her small animal medicine specialty. Dr. Sheinberg is a Diplomate of the Latin American College of Veterinary Dermatology (DLACVD) and a board member of the Latin American College of Veterinary Dermatology and the Latin American Society of Veterinary Dermatology. Dr. Sheinberg lectures and is a clinical instructor of veterinary dermatology in Mexico and abroad. She is part of the Mexican Veterinary Dermatology Group, dedicated to clinical research and publications.

He joined the faculty at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY in 1995. He is living in CDMX but he was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He graduated in Veterinary Medicine but he has to study several years of human medicine to develop the veterinary oncology in Latin America. He has the degree of radiotherapist, obtained from studies conducted exclusively in the field of medicine. His desire to communicate sciences made him study science communication and journalism; Dr. Soberano founded a vet newspaper and a website for free downloads of digital books for doctors. Richard graduated from Bristol University in England. After a spell in practice he obtained post graduate clinical training at the Universities of Cambridge and Pennsylvania and research training at Glasgow. He is a Diplomate of both the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine and he holds the RCVS Diploma of Veterinary Radiology. His PhD involved a hunt for canine endogenous retroviruses. Richard worked at universities in UK, USA, and Australasia before retiring earlier this year. Throughout most of his career, Richard taught small animal medicine. Most of his research has been on companion animal infectious diseases. In New Zealand, he taught and carried out research in veterinary virology (including bacteriophage therapy) for 5 years. Richard was a member of the WSAVA’s Scientific Advisory Committee from 2008 – 2019. He has been a member of the WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines Group since 2010 and became chair of that committee in 2020. He was involved in both the Asian and Latin American phases of work of that committee and was an author of the most recent WSAVA Vaccination Guidelines.

Dr. Paulo Steagall is a Professor of Veterinary Anesthesiology and Pain Management at the City University of Hong Kong and the Université de Montréal. He is a board-certified specialist by the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia. He is the head of a clinical research laboratory dedicated to improving pain management and animal welfare with cutting-edge research in pain assessment with an emphasis on cats including the Feline Grimace Scale (www.felinegrimacescale.com). He is a member of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Global Pain Council, and co-chair of the WSAVA Therapeutic Guidelines Group and the 2022 International Society of Feline Medicine Consensus Guidelines on Acute Pain Management. He has published over 130 scientific articles on pain management and the book “Feline Anesthesia and Pain Management” while lecturing internationally.

Upon graduating from veterinary college, Debbie spent the first years of her career in general and emergency practice, upon which she founded the Pioneer Pet Clinic, a family-centered companion animal hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. With room in her heart for helping children as well as animals, she began fostering with Family and Children’s Services. Introduced to, and inspired by, an alternate helping profession, she returned to school to study social work. She then merged her expertise to complete a PhD in Epidemiology, specializing in veterinary-client-patient communication. Since then, Debbie has held various positions within industry, wherein she developed a fully accredited, evidence-based veterinary continuing education program called The Social Side of Practice. This program specializes in the areas of veterinary wellness, communication, teamwork, organizational culture, and leadership. She has given over 400 presentations internationally and published close to 30 articles in veterinary and social work journals as well as two book chapters. She volunteers with a variety of organizations, from local charities and non-profits to international professional associations, including WSAVA, being a member of the Professional Wellness Group. Debbie is a caregiver, healer, and teacher by nature, with a passion for supporting the health and welfare of people and animals.

Jane Sykes is a Professor of Small Animal Medicine at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine with interest in small animal infectious diseases. She obtained her veterinary degree and PhD in veterinary microbiology at the University of Melbourne, Australia; residency in small animal internal medicine, University of Minnesota; MBA, University of Georgia. She is Board-Certified in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She has coauthored > 100 scientific publications and is the editor of the textbooks “Canine and Feline Infectious Diseases”, “Greene’s Infectious Diseases of the Dog and Cat (5e)”. She was the founder and first President of the International Society of Companion Animal Infectious Diseases (ISCAID) and is current President of the ACVIM. Her clinical and research interests currently include infectious diseases of dogs and cats with public health implications, including leptospirosis, coccidioidomycosis, and antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections.
