University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein
Department of Neurosurgery
Professor Rasche is consultant neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital of Schleswig-Holstein, Campus Lübeck, Germany. He is head of the Functional and Stereotactic Neurosurgery, Neuromodulation and invasive pain therapies outpatient service of the Dept. of Neurosurgery. His research focuses on the clinical aspects of invasive treatment options for various chronic diseases, e.g. chronic neuropathic pain syndromes or movement disorders etc. Since 1994, one research focus is neuroimaging and invasive treatment options of patients with trigeminal neuralgia and chronic facial pain syndromes, ranging from distinct clinical examinations, high-resolution MRI-scanning to microvascular decompression and central neuromodulation techniques. In 2005 Dr. Rasche introduced DBS in Lübeck. The indication spectrum for DBS ranges from movement disorders to chronic pain syndromes and psychiatric diseases. In 2015 he was Co-Editor of the “Textbook of Neuromodulation”. Since 2018 he is elected president of the German chapter of the International Neuromodulation Society. In the last 25 years Prof. Rasche has been involved in numerous clinical studies and trials. Plenty of presentations as invited speaker with the whole spectrum of neuromodulation techniques and also intrathecal drug delivery for chronic pain or spasticity at national or international congresses or as teacher in various workshops, cadaver-courses etc. were performed.

Erasmus MC
Center for Pain Medicine
Laurien is a researcher at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, in the field of pain medicine. With a master's degree in Technical Medicine, specializing in Sensing and Stimulation, from the Technical University Delft, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and University Leiden, she started with her PhD trajectory at the Center for Pain Medicine this year. Laurien's research is centered around the use of Magnetoencephalography (MEG) to explore the cortical effects of spinal cord stimulation. Using MEG, she can non-invasively record brain activity and gain insights into the brain's processing of pain signals and how this is affected by neuromodulation. In addition to her MEG research project, Laurien has conducted a systematic review examining the effects of spinal cord stimulation on the cortical somatosensory evoked response. The findings from this review form the basis of the poster she will present at the e-INS congress.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Rüdiger Rupp received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering with focus on biomedical engineering and his Dr.-Ing. degree from the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1994 and 2008, respectively. Since 2021, he has a professorship for Assistive Neurotechnology. After working at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering and Biocybernetics (Prof. G. Vossius) until 1996, since 1997 he is with the Spinal Cord Injury Center (Head: Prof. N. Weidner) of Heidelberg University Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany, where he holds the position as the head of the section Experimental Neurorehabilitation. His main research interests are in the field of rehabilitation engineering for people living with spinal cord injury. This includes neuroprosthetics mainly of the upper extremity, man-machine interfaces, gait analysis, development and clinical validation of novel methods and devices for locomotion therapy and realization of software projects for standardized documentation of rehabilitation outcome. He is author of more than 320 journal, book chapter, textbook and conference publications and holds two patents. He has been awarded several times for his work and is a member of IEEE, IFESS, VDE, DMGP, DGOOC, NervClub, ISCoS and ASIA. Since 2017, he is chair of the ASIA International Standards Committee.
