Among previous functions, Luís Campos was president of the Portuguese Society of Internal Medicine; president of the National Council for Quality in Healthcare; national coordinator of the Electronic Health Record; national coordinator of the Autoimmunity Study Group of SPMI; director of the Emergency Department of the Western Area of the Lisbon; and advisor of Macao Government and Azores Regional Government in the area of Health. Luis Campos presented more than 400 conferences, authored or co-authored about 340 communications, dozens of publications and 16 book chapters. He was co-editor of two books. In 2019 he was chair of the 18th European Congress of Internal Medicine.

Roberto Caporali is Head of rheumatology and medical sciences department at the Gaetano Pini teaching hospital and Director of the postgraduated school of rheumatology of the University of Milan, Italy. As full professor of rheumatology he is based at the Department of Clinical Sciences and Community Health, University of Milan. Gaetano Pini teaching hospital (namely ASST Gaetano Pini-CTO) stands from over a century as a nationwide scientific excellence in the clinical and surgical treatment of rheumatic diseases, and guarantees the expertise required in order to tailor the clinical research activity towards an efficient outcome. Prof Caporali was among the experts who delineated and published the 2019 update of the EULAR recommendations for management of rheumatoid arthritis, published in the Annals of the Rheumatic diseases in Jan 2020. He previously directed the Early Arthritis clinic at the IRCCS S. Matteo University Hospital, publishing data on a cohort of more than 700 patients with early rheumatoid arthritis.

MD Cappellini has been active in the fields of rare diseases in adults including Hemoglobinophaties and Lysosomal Disorders and Heme patway disorders for over 40 years. She has published a large number of peer-reviewed original articles in these areas, as well as being a regular contributor and invited speaker at national and international meetings. She focused on the phenotypic expression of thalassaemia major and intermedia and evaluated the genotype-phenotype relationship, taking into account the co-inheritance of modifier genes. Dr. Cappellini studies oxidative stress in pathologic erythrocytes, focusing on the role of non-transferrin-bound iron in relation to iron chelation. She is involved in clinical trials for new iron chelators and new molecules for rare diseases being PI for multicentres international studies. Dr Cappellini is a Member of a number of societies, including the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the European Hematology Association (EHA), the Italian Society of Hematology (SIE), the Italian Society of Internal Medicine (SIMI), the Bioiron and the European Society of Internal Medicine. She is member of the board of European Gaucher registry. Dr. Cappellini is Past President of the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM). She is Honorary Fellow of RCP and ACP. She has been invited as a spearker for the last 3 Cooley’s Anemia Symposia and Member of the Scientific Committee for their Symposia. She has been the Chair of the ASH Scientific Committee on Iron and Heme in 2016/2017 She is member of fellowship grant committee at EHA She is awarded with the Stratton Medal by ASH 2020
