Prof. Unal is previous Dean of the School of Medicine and Chair of Department of Internal Medicine and currently the Chair of Department of Infectious Diseases at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. He previously served as a Fellow in Infectious Diseases at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. His main areas of interest are hospital infection control, antimicrobial resistance in gram positive cocci, adult vaccination, and HIV infection. Prof. Unal has published 200 international articles and 220 international abstracts. He was honored with TUBITAK (Technical Research Council of Turkey) Young Scientist Investigation Award, the Non-Governmental Organizations Women Health Commission Millennium Award in HIV/AIDS in 2002, the Centenary Medal of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine in 2008 and Hacettepe University Science Award in 2011. Prof. Unal is President of the Turkish Society of Internal Medicine and Secretary General of Turkish Society of Hospital Infection & Control and of International Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.

Professor Andrew Ustianowski is a Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases and HIV at the Regional Infection Unit, North Manchester General Hospital, UK; the Deputy Clinical Director of the Greater Manchester Clinical Research Network; and Joint National Specialty Lead for Infection for the UK National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). Currently he is the national clinical lead for the UK NIHR COVID Vaccine Research Programme, is UK chief investigator on 7 COVID studies and has been an investigator on multiple other SARS-CoV2 trials. He is a member of the national NIHR Urgent Public Health Committee which prioritises COVID studies for national adoption. Dr Ustianowski graduated from Guy’s Hospital, London, UK and subsequently trained in Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine, HIV and General Medicine in the London region.
