Molecular Pathology and Therapeutics of Atherosclerosis and Ischemic Diseases
Prof. Lina Badimon scientific interest focusses on atherosclerosis, ischemic heart diseases, cardio-metabolic diseases and thrombosis. She has published over 660 articles in highly qualified scientific journals with her work highly quoted (H-index: 95. Number of citations: 83,772. ORCID number: 0000-0002-9162-2459). She has written more of 250 reviews and book chapters. She is Member of Editorial Boards of international scientific journals and Member of Scientific Advisory Boards of International Research Institutions and Funding Agencies. Her previous appointments include Director of the Cardiology Research -Division of Cardiology at the Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York (1983‐1991); Lecturer in Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston (1991‐1994); Consultant at the Cardiac Unit-Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston (1991‐1994). Her Positions of Trust include Member of the European Society of Cardiology Board 2020-2022, Vice-President for Scientific Affairs of European Society of Cardiology (2016-2018), Vice‐President of the Spanish Society of Cardiology (2013‐2015); Chairman of the ESC-Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science (2014‐2016) and Chairman of the ESC-Working Group on Microcirculation (2012‐2014); President of the European Society for Clinical Investigation (2000‐2002) and of the Spanish Society of Atherosclerosis (1996‐2000); Member of the National Academy of Medicine and of the National Academy of Pharmacy of Catalonia and of Spain.

Christie Ballantyne is an internationally renowned expert on lipids, atherosclerosis and heart disease prevention. His many accomplishments include being elected as Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Society of Clinical Investigation, and the Association of American Physicians. In 2012 he received the American College of Cardiology Distinguished Scientist Award (Basic Domain). In 2014 and 2015, Thomson Reuters recognized Professor Ballantyne as one of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds”. Clarivate Analytics, Web of Science, named Professor Ballantyne as a “Highly Cited Researcher” 2017-2021, in the top 1% of researchers most cited. In 2019, he was awarded the Baylor College of Medicine Michael E. DeBakey, M.D., Excellence in Research Award. His research has led to the FDA approval of two biomarkers for cardiovascular risk prediction, and he has played a prominent role in the development and FDA approval of new therapies for treatment of lipids. With over 800 publications in the area, he also serves on the Editorial Board for Circulation and Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Professor Ballantyne is the Chief of Cardiovascular Research at Baylor College of Medicine and the Director for Cardiometabolic Disease Prevention at Baylor College of Medicine.

Prof. Maciej Banach was an Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland (2010-2012), and a President of the 2nd largest hospital in Poland. - the Polish Mother's Memorial Hospital - Research Institute (PMMHRI) (2014-2021). He is a Head of Department of Preventive Cardiology and Lipidology at the Medical University of Lodz, and Professor Consultant at the Department of Cardiology and Congenital Diseases of Adults at the PMMHRI in Lodz, Poland. He is an Adjunct Professor of the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. He is a Secretary of the European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) and member of the Scientific and Health Policy Advisory Group of the FH Europe. He is a Head of the Polish Lipid Association (PoLA), the Lipid and Blood Pressure Meta-analysis Collaboration (LBPMC) Group, as well as the International Lipid Expert Panel (ILEP; ilep.eu). Prof. Banach has published over 1400 original articles in the field of hypertension, dyslipidemia, cardiology, and risk stratification. His number of citations: >55,000, Hirsch’s Index = 83 (WoS/Publons)– being within 1% the highest cited scientists in the world according to Essential Science Indicators by Clarivate (with 56 TOP Papers).
