Dr. Manica Balasegaram trained as a medical doctor at the University of Nottingham, UK from where he started his career in internal and emergency medicine. From 2001 onwards, he worked as a doctor and researcher in several countries including in Sub- Saharan Africa and Southern Asia. He has gained significant experience working in humanitarian emergencies and responses, largely with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). In 2007, Dr. Balasegaram joined the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative as Head of Leishmaniasis Clinical Program. In 2011, he returned to MSF as Executive Director of their high-profile Access Campaign. He was appointed Executive Director of GARDP and has led the organization since 2016 through its incubation to an independent legal entity, during which time GARDP launched four programmes and built a skilled and dedicated team with expertise from a range of sectors and backgrounds. Dr. Balasegaram has significant experience in organizational governance and is currently a board member of the Medicines Patent Pool as well as of FIND’s Scientific Advisory Committee. He has also previously served as a Board Member and Secretary of Médecins Sans Frontières (Switzerland). His experience spans clinical and public health practice in infectious diseases to international work on health policy & access to medicines. He has served on numerous technical and health policy panels, including notably as a Member of the Expert Advisory Group of the UN High Level Panel on Access to Medicines (2015-16) and a Member of the WHO Scientific Advisory Group for the Blueprint on Research & Development Preparedness (2015 and ongoing). With over 20 years' experience in Global Health, Dr. Balasegaram has a proven track record in partnership building, resource mobilization, public and private sector stakeholder management and governance.
Denise Banze is a Researcher at the Polana Caniço-INS Health Research and Training Center in Maputo, Mozambique. She has a degree in General Medicine from the Eduardo Mondlane University since 2016 and worked as a General Practitioner for two years prior to joining the National Institute of Health. Ever since, she has been performing clinical research activities, aimed at improving diagnosis in Pediatric Tuberculosis and Pediatric Pulmonary Health. She has an interest in the areas of infectious diseases, immunology, and pediatrics.

Dr Elisa Barbieri (f) is a Post-Doc researcher at the Division of Paediatric infectious Disease Unit - Department for Women’s and Children’s Health at the University of Padova. She was trained as a pharmacist and her research areas are paediatric infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, medicine use, pharmacoepidemiology and vaccines. She has been working as pharmacovigilance specialist in clinical trials and she is currently studying the influenza vaccine effectiveness and cost-effectiveness in the Italian paediatric population.
Jose Luis Bartha, Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Autonoma of Madrid. Head of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University Hospital La Paz, Madrid. He was graduated in Medicine at the University of Malaga, Spain. He got his Ph.D. degree at the University of Seville, where he also trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology. After working and developing his first research lines in the field of High Risk Pregnancy in Spain, he moved to the U.K., where he worked as a Consultant Senior Lecturer in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at the University of Bristol / St Michael’s Hospital. After few years he came back to Spain as Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cadiz, and then he moved to his current post in Madrid. University Hospital La Paz is one of the biggest maternities of the country and one of the most important tertiary referral centers for many specialties including Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal and Fetal Medicine. He has published more than 140 papers in indexed peer-reviewed international journals. He also has published many chapters of books, has participated in many international and national congresses as invited speaker and he has been principal investigator for many randomized clinical trials. His main research areas are Diabetes and Obesity in Pregnancy, Inflammation in Pregnancy and Fetal Medicine.

Francesca is a paediatrician specialising in infectious diseases. She was trained in paediatrics with a concentration in tropical medicine and global child health in Italy, where she also completed a fellowship in clinical HIV. During her residency, she spent ten months working in northern Uganda at St. Mary's Lacor Hospital, one of the largest non-for-profit hospitals in sub-Saharan Africa. She currently works as a consultant for the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) at Texas Children's Hospital. Her main clinical and research interests include the management of advanced paediatric HIV, HIV-TB and malaria.
