Petter Brodin is a professor of paediatric immunology at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, and, as of 2021, the Garfield Weston Chair and Professor of paediatric immunology at Imperial College London. Professor Brodin received his MD and PhD in parallel from the Karolinska Institute in 2011, with his PhD research focusing on natural killer cell development and tolerance. Professor Brodin then performed a postdoctoral fellowship with Professor Mark M. Davis at Stanford University School of Medicine in California, USA, where he studied the contribution of heritable and non-heritable factors to human immune system variation in a cohort of twins (Brodin et al, Cell, 2015). Brodin subsequently returned to Sweden to establish his independent laboratory and also formed a national facility for cellular immunomonitoring at the SciLifeLab center in Stockholm and the Karolinska Institutet. The Brodin lab continues to develop experimental and computational methods to better describe the composition and function of human immune systems using systems biology methods to understand immune variation and development in humans, as well as immune system dysregulation in patients with inflammatory diseases.
