Professor Andrea Fagiolini graduated from Liceo Scientifico in Livorno, Italy and received his medical training gat the University of Pisa School of Medicine. After completing his psychiatric residency at the University of Modena, Italy, he spent more than ten years on the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, USA, where he served as Associate Professor of Psychiatry, and Medical Director of the Bipolar Disorder Center and the Depression and Manic Depression Prevention Program. He then joined the faculty of the University of Siena School of Medicine where he presently serves as Professor of Psychiatry, Medical Director and Residency Training Director of the Division of Psychiatry. Professor Fagiolini also serves as Chairman of the Department of Mental Health and Sensory Organs (DAI) in the University of Siena Medical Center (AOUS). He has published over 500 papers and book chapters and sits on the editorial boards of a number of peer-reviewed international journals. He is the principal investigator or co-investigator in several internationally funded research studies. His research interests and publications have primarily focused on the treatment of mood and psychotic disorders, physical health, functional impairment, and quality of life in patients with mental diseases. Peter Falkai has been working in the field of psychiatry for 30 years. His main research interest is focused on the neurobiology of psychotic disorders, namely schizophrenia. He holds the position of Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the University of Munich. Prof. Falkai has been leading multidisciplinary teams of researchers, allowing the use of techniques ranging from functional imaging to gene expression in human post-mortem-tissue. His clinical and research expertise focuses continuously on the neurobiological origins and pathomorphological aspects as well as on causal treatment options of psychotic disorders.
