Prof CB Eap is the head of the Unit of Pharmacogenetics and Clinical Psychopharmacology and the chief of service at the Center for Psychiatric Neurosciences, Department of Psychiatry, Lausanne University Hospital. He is associate professor on the Faculty of Biology and Medicine at the University of Lausanne and lecturer at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Geneva. He divides his time among both clinical and research activities. His main field of research is therapeutic drug monitoring and pharmacogenetics / pharmacogenomics, in particular the variability in metabolism of psychotropic drugs (e.g., fast or slow metabolizers for cytochrome P450 isoforms). He has been conducting a large ongoing clinical study (PsyMetab) investigating the environmental, clinical, and genetic influences on metabolic effects induced by psychotropic drugs. He is the main author or coauthor of over 260 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His H-index is 53

Virology
Josef Eberle studied medicine at the LMU Munich, Germany. In 1984 he started his specialisation for virology. Main research focus was HIV, with development of serologic and molecular tests to detect infections, monitor virus loads, analyse epidemiologic linkage of infections and prove therapeutic resistance. His post-doctoral thesis (1995) was about molecular analysis of the first German HIV-2 infection. Together with his senior partner, Lutz Gürtler, he discovered HIV-1 group O viruses (1991), which resulted in improved serologic screening tests. The application of these tools in a collaboration with French scientists led to the discovery of HIV-1 group N (1998) and HIV-1 group P (2009). His molecular analyses of cases with failed HIV-RNA detection by commercial PCR tests in infected patients and blood donors triggered the improvement of these tests and enhanced patient safety worldwide. Josef Eberle is founder of HIV-Grade e.V., a European internet platform that provides genotypic resistance predictions for HIV-1, HIV-2, HCV and HBV. Moreover, Josef Eberle is responsible for the education of third year medical students at LMU. Since 1989 he is working as senior doctor for the virology lab at the Pettenkofer-Institute, where he took part in SARS-CoV-2 testing and counselling during the last two years.
