Laura Palagini (MD, PhD) is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Psychiatric Clinic and Director of the Sleep Outpatient Clinic at the Department of Neuroscience and Rehabilitation, University of Ferrara, Italy. Dr Palagini’s research interests include the mechanism of sleep, insomnia and other sleep disorders, dream and sleep, sleep and psychiatric disorders, sleep disorders in somatic and medical disease, and sleep disorders in rheumatic disease. Dr Palagini’s is an expert in pharmacological therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy in sleep disorders. Dr Palagini is the author of over 100 scientific publications on sleep, sleep medicine and sleep disorders. Dr Palagini is a member of the European Insomnia Network (EIN) of the European Sleep Research Society, and a member of the council of the Italian Association of Sleep Medicine (AIMS). Dr Palagini is also a member of other international task forces on sleep and mental health.

Diego Palao, MD, PhD is Director of Mental Health at the University Hospital Parc Taulí-Sabadell (Barcelona, Spain) and Professor of Psychiatry at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. He leads the Neurosciences Parc Taulí-Inc Research Group integrated in the Spanish Psychiatric Research Network CIBERSAM. He completed his medical studies in 1986 at the Valencia University Medical School in Spain. He had his residency training in Psychiatry at the Clinic Hospital at the University of Barcelona (1993), and he later received his PhD in Psychiatry from the same university (1996). Professor Palao’s major research interests include epidemiology of mental disorders, depression and suicide prevention and the development of new e-mental health tools. He is member of the Advisory Board on MH of the Department of Health in Catalonia (Spain). He was president of the Catalonian Society of Psychiatry, vice-president of the Acadèmia de Ciències Mèdiques de Catalunya and member of the Board of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry. Currently, he is an elected member of the Board of the European Psychiatric Association.

Dr Sofia Pappa is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Brain Sciences, Imperial College London, and Speciality Lead in Mental Health for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). She also works as a Consultant Psychiatrist and Mood & Psychosis Research Lead at West London NHS Trust. She has dual training in Neurology and Psychiatry and was awarded a European scholarship for the completion of her PhD. She subsequently obtained a fellowship for postdoctoral research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Kings College London, evaluating the neuromotor dysfunction in early psychosis. Her research interests include neuropsychopharmacology and the management of affective and psychotic disorders, as well as neuropsychiatry (particularly in movement and sleep disorders) and patient involvement. Dr Pappa has received a number of awards and grants and has acted as Principal Investigator for several clinical trials. She has published in and acts as reviewer for high impact journals, such as the British Journal of Psychiatry, Psychological Medicine, Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology and Brain, Behaviour and Immunity.
