Abstract

Objectives

The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence of narcissistic and anti-social personality disorders traits and possible gender differences among Turkish patients treated at the NPZR.

Methods

A total of 175 patients (46.3%, n=81 and 53.7%, n=94) were evaluated with the Structural Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis Disorders (SCID-II), a researcher-rated instrument. The valid and reliable version of the SCID-II was performed, approved by Sorias et al. 1990. The SCID-II was administered to randomly selected patients of group therapies. The results were correlated with socio-demographic variables such as income, gender, education, martial and employment status.

Results

The demographic variable of gender significantly predicted narcissistic personality disorder as well as anti-social personality disorders. Male participants demonstrate higher narcissistic (p=0.005) and anti-social disorder (p=0.001) traits in comparison to female patients as measured by the SCID-II.

Conclusions

The results are in line with previous studies showing a greater frequency of narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders in male group therapy patients at the NPZR. Further research is required to show mental health disorders of Turkish immigrant patients.
