Dr. Buckley is a Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine physician a the Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan, USA. He completed his medical school education at Wayne State University and residency and fellowships at Indiana University. He has been heavily involved in medical education throughout his career, serving as a fellowship program director, medical student clerkship director, and vice-chair for education at the largest medical school in the US. He has been very active with CHEST including serving as scientific program chair for the 2013 annual meeting, regent at-large for CHEST's Board from 2013-2019, and currently serves as chair of the CHEST Pulmonary Board Review course. As of January 2022 he also serves as President-Designate for CHEST.

This session will highlight the significant prothrombotic state that occurs in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19 infection, the rationale behind the initial set of guidelines, and the studies that have emerged since that time and how they have formed our current understanding and recommendations for prevention.
Learning Objectives:• Discuss the underlying pathophysiology that leads to thrombotic events in COVID-19 and how this informed the first iteration of guidelines.
• Review randomized controlled trials regarding prevention.
• Discuss current recommendations based upon this recent data, including controversies surrounding these recommendations.
