Berihun is an epidemiologist and public health researcher and currently a post-doctoral research fellow at Curtin University, School of Public Health, Perth, Western Australia. He has recently received his PhD from the University of Queensland, Australia. His PhD focuses on pregnancy complications and the risk of mental and behavioural health disorders in offspring using one of the largest longitudinal birth cohort study: the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children ( ALSPAC). He obtained MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Gondar and MSc in Adult Health Nursing from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Prior to his PhD study, he had been a faculty member at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, involved in teaching, research and community service activities. Berihun’s research interest is on life course and perinatal epidemiology, developmental origins of health and disease, child and adolescent mental health and maternal and child health. His current research focuses on the impact of early life adversities on mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring.

My research experience is in the field of psychiatric epidemiology, with a specific interest in the aetiology of serious mental disorders and their course and outcome in life. I have an extensive knowledge about the Swedish registers and am the PI of one of the most comprehensive register linkages in Sweden aimed at mental health research.
