Dr. med. Wolfgang Gaebel is Professor of Psychiatry, former Director of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Heinrich-Heine University, Düsseldorf (Germany), and Head of the LVR-Klinikum Düsseldorf. He is Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Quality Management and Empowerment in Mental Health. From 2014 to 2016 he was also Founding Director of the LVR-Institute for Mental Healthcare Research in Düsseldorf. Prof. Gaebel was twice President of the German Society of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN 1995/6, 2007/8) and he was President of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA 2015/6) and is Co-chair of the EPA Section on Schizophrenia and Co-chair of the EPA Publication Com-mittee. He is chairing the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Sections on Schizophrenia and on Quality Assurance. His research focus includes clinical, pharmacological, and neurophysiological aspects of schizophrenia, treatment guidelines and quality management, stigma and discrimination, and the revision of classification towards DSM-5 and ICD-11. He was a member of the WHO International Advisory Group for the Revision of ICD-10 Mental and Behavioral Disorders, chaired the ICD-11 working group on Psychotic Disorders, he was a member of the WHO ICD-11 Field Study Coordination Group and is a member of the WHO FIC Medical Scientific Advisory Committee for ICD-11. In 2020 Prof. Gaebel was honored by the DGPPN with the Wilhelm-Griesinger Medal as a lifetime reward.

Silvana Galderisi, MD, PhD, is full professor of Psychiatry, Chair of the Department of Mental and Physical Health and Preventive Medicine of the University of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli. She is the Director of the Emergency Unit of the Department of Mental Health of the same University; Coordinator of the Outpatient Unit for Anxiety and Psychotic Disorders and of the Rehabilitation Program for severe mental disorders of the same Department. She is President Elect of the Italian Society for Psychopathology (SOPSI), immediate Past President of the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), Chairperson of the EPA Schizophrenia Section, Co-chair of the Taskforce “Minimising coercion in mental health care” and member of the Standing Committee on Ethics of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). She is founding member and member of the Board of Directors of the European Group for Research in Schizophrenia; Chairperson of the Communications Committee of the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS), and member of the Strategic Plan Task Force of the same Association; board member of the European Scientific Association on Schizophrenia (ESAS), and of the Italian Society for Psychopathology and Italian Society of Biological Psychiatry. She is Honorary Fellow of the World Psychiatric Association-WPA, Honorary Member of the Polish Psychiatric Association and of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association (HPA), International Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association-APA, International Advisor of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN), and Honorary Fellow of the European Society of Social Psychiatry (ESSP). Her research activity focuses on Schizophrenia pathophysiology, treatment and outcome, with particular reference to the domains of negative symptoms and cognition and their impact on psychosocial outcome. She is author/coauthor of more than 250 publications, in national and international journals and books, member of the Editorial Boards of several international psychiatric journals, Editor in Chief of Schizophrenia Bulletin Open.

Vittorio Gallese, MD and trained neurologist, is Professor of Psychobiology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the Dept. of Medicine & Surgery of the University of Parma, Italy, Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at the Dept. of Art History and Archeology, Columbia University, New York, USA, and Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Philosophy of the School of Advanced Study of the University of London. Cognitive neuroscientist, his research focuses on the relation between the sensorimotor system and social cognition by investigating the neurobiological and bodily grounding of intersubjectivity, psychopathology, language and aesthetics. His major scientific contribution is the discovery of mirror neurons, together with the colleagues of Parma, and the development of a new model of perception and imagination: Embodied Simulation Theory. He is the author of more than 300 scientific publications and three books.
