Manuel Linares is a specialist in Microbiology and Parasitology, and in Family and Community Medicine. He trained in Madrid at Puerta de Hierro and Gregorio Marañón, in addition to UPMC in Pittsburgh. Dr. Linares currently works at Hospital Universitario Príncipe de Asturias, SERMAS, (the Madrid public health service) as a faculty specialist. He is the President and founder of Fundación iO which develops projects to combat and control infectious diseases around the world. Fundación iO raises awareness of health disparities, and fights to combat all infectious diseases whilst working on the transformation and improvement of the most disadvantaged communities. Dr. Linares is coordinating several ongoing educational projects related to a range of diseases including HIV, hepatitis, STDs and community-acquired pneumonia, as well as the application of new technologies within the medical field. Dr. Linares is a member of several scientific societies including SEMTSI and Neumoexpertos, as well as a coordinator of the SEMERGEN group of Infectious Diseases. He is currently researching rapid diagnostic techniques available to the family doctor, and primary care as system change (Point of Care). Dr. Linares lectures in multiple medical and patient forums on varied topics covering primary care, infectious diseases, tropical and traveler's medicine, and patient empowerment.
