Physiology
Lance Johnson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology and the Sanders Brown Center on Aging at the University of Kentucky. Research in the Johnson lab is dedicated to better understanding the role of APOE in cerebral metabolism. With a special focus on the neuroprotective E2 allele and the metabolic contributions of glia to neurodegeneration, the lab employs a variety of transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches (from cells to mice to humans). The lab’s overarching goal is to discover new therapeutic targets that will allow us to reprogram metabolism in individuals at-risk for Alzheimer's disease in order to enhance cognitive resilience and to extend the brain’s health span. The lab is generously supported by the National Institute on Aging, the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
