Dr. Vivian Reyes serves as the Regional Medical Director of Hospital Operations for The Permanente Medical Group, which is the exclusive medical group for Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. In this role she has led several initiatives, including Enhance Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), the Regional TeleStroke Program Design and Implementation, a predictive model to identify inpatient deterioration - Advance Alert Monitor (AAM), and the Regional Delirium Prevention and Management Program. She currently co-leads the Advanced Care at Home Program, TeleCritical Care Program as well as Enhanced Recovery Medical, which applied ERAS principles to non-surgical hospital patients. Also in this role, Dr. Reyes directs the Regional Emergency Management Program and partners with the physician chiefs groups of Emergency Medicine, Hospital-Based Medicine, Critical Care and Resource Management to set regional strategy and growth of these respective specialties. Prior to serving as a regional medical director, she practiced disaster medicine and led the medical response for Kaiser Permanente teams to multiple international disasters, including the 2013 Philippines Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. Closer to home she led the Kaiser Permanente Northern California response during the 2014 Ebola Outbreak, successfully implementing workflows across 21 emergency departments to identify potential Ebola patients and opening two CDC-recognized Ebola Treatment Centers in just a few weeks. She is currently directing the inpatient COVID-19 response for The Permanente Medical Group. Dr. Reyes is board certified in Emergency Medicine and has continued to practice in the Kaiser Permanente Emergency Department in San Francisco since 2003. She currently serves as the Immediate Past President for the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP). She completed an executive leadership program at the Harvard Business School in 2017, obtained her medical degree from Albany Medical College in New York and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Highland Hospital in Oakland. In her spare time she used to enjoy traveling to less traveled parts of the world, but now she enjoys sheltering at home with her family and dogs.
