Description:

The lecture will focus on the 6 World Symposia on Pulmonary Hypertension organized so far in the past 47 years

In particular, the evolution of the hemodynamic and clinical classifications and of the diagnostic and treatment algorithms will be reviewed

The improvements in the differential diagnosis of the most frequent forms of pulmonary hypertension, such as pulmonary hypertension in left-sided heart disease and lung disease will be highlighted

The extraordinary treatment progress achieved in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension and with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension will be discussed in details

The pathobiological achievements in all forms of pulmonary hypertension will be analyzed with special attention to current and future translational insights

Special topics such as pediatric pulmonary hypertension and multifactorial pulmonary hypertension will be also considered

Finally, future perspectives in the field of pulmonary vascular science will be proposed

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the evolution of knowledge in the different types of pulmonary hypertension

• Recognize the diagnostic procedures and changes over time

• Appreciate the different treatment strategies and how have been refined and tailored for the individual patient
