He is the Head of the Health Outcomes Research Unit at the Italian Group for Adult Hematologic Diseases (GIMEMA) and Chairman of the GIMEMA Working Party on Quality of Life. He is also Adjunct Professor at the Department of Medical Social Sciences of Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, USA. He is Past-Chair of the of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Group, and has served on the Board of Directors of the International Society for Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL). He has been the leader of several large-scale international projects in hematologic malignancies across different research settings, including patient-centered outcome studies whose findings have contributed to support the approval of novel drugs by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). He has lectured in a number of top-ranking Universities and at major International Meetings of Scientific Societies, such as: the American Society of Hematology (ASH) and the European Hematology Association (EHA). He’s author of more than 240 Articles indexed in PubMed of which several as leading/corresponding author in top-ranking journals, such as: Blood, Lancet Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology (JCO), Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), Lancet Hematology, Leukemia. He’s also author of several Book Chapters published by major Publishing Houses, such as, the Oxford University Press. He has an extensive editorial activity in senior roles having served or serving as Associate Editor/Editorial Board for key Journals including: Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), Health and Quality of Life Outcomes, BMC Cancer, and Blood.
