M. Almonte

Maribel Almonte is the Deputy Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch (EPR), epidemiologist and implementation scientist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). She has an MPH in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, an MSC in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a PhD in cancer epidemiology from UCL, UK. She has been working on the field of cervical cancer prevention for several years and has extensive experience in conducting multicentric international studies in low- and middle-income countries and her research is most recently focused on implementation research. She is the Principal Investigator of the ESTAMPA study, a multicentric study of screening and triage techniques using HPV testing as primary test in several countries in Latin America. The study is also evaluating approaches to successfully introduce HPV testing in primary screening in the region. She is also conducting the CESTA study in Africa to evaluate appropriate cervical screen-and-treat approaches for women with limited access to care and women living with HIV.
