Professor Louis Grandjean is a Consultant in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK, and an Associate Professor and Wellcome Trust Postdoctoral Fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital and University College London. Since completing his PhD in 2013, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Professor Grandjean conducts research work alongside his clinical responsibilities. Dividing his time between the UK and Peru, Professor Grandjean has been leading research programmes at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, Lima, for 10 years and currently leads a tuberculosis research group in the Section of Infectious Diseases and Immunity at University College London, having received a number of awards in this research area. Professor Grandjean’s research interests focus on understanding and preventing the transmission of tuberculosis, particularly multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Other research interests include developing novel low-cost diagnostics for the detection of tuberculosis (including MDR-TB) and studying the bacterial genetics of MDR-TB. In addition, he serves as a Specialist Advisor to the UK’s Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis Clinical Advice Service on behalf of the British Thoracic Society.
