Children´s Hospital Iceland Paediatric Infectious Diseases
Valtyr Thors is a specialist in paediatric infectious diseases. He completed his medical degree from the University of Iceland in 2003 and his paediatric and infectious diseases training in the Netherlands (2006-2011) and the UK (2011-2016). He defended his PhD from the University of Bristol, UK in 2016. His research interests are mainly vaccine preventable infections, congenital CMV and antimicrobial stewardship. He is currently the lead for paediatric infectious diseases in Iceland and works at the Children’s Hospital Reykjavik, Iceland as well as an assistant professor at the University of Iceland. He is the supervisor of two PhD students and has lead several BSc projects in recent years. He is an active member of ESPID as a member of the Committee for Scientific Affairs and Awards. He is the programme director for a two-year core paediatric training programme at the Children´s Hospital Iceland. He is a founder and key member of NORDPID, a network in paediatric infectious disease research in the Nordic countries. Valtyr is one of the faculty members of an international course in paediatric infectious diseases held in Iceland since 2015 - "the Iceland course".
