I am a Clinical Lecturer at Bristol Vaccine Centre and the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, and Honorary/Acting Consultant in Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. My research explores how we can design new and better vaccines through understanding the function of immune cells that reside in the respiratory tract. I developed my interest in respiratory immunity while studying macrophage function, funded by fellowships from the Medical Research Council and ESPID. Now, I am interested in how we can develop a vaccine for group A Streptococcus (GAS) by profiling the antigen-specific response of respiratory lymphoid tissue. My current research is funded by grants from Above and Beyond and ESPID. I am also undertaking COVID-19 research funded by the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute and the Grand Appeal. I also contribute to teaching, and chair the ESPID Walter Marget Workshop as well as co-chair RCPCH Child Health in Low-Resource Settings.
