Paediatric Gastroenterology& Nutrition
Prof. Raoul Furlano has over 25 years’ experience in paediatric gastroenterology and he is the Head of Paediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition at the University Children’s Hospital in Basel, Switzerland since 2001. In 1995 his interest in Paediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition led him to take up Fellowship training at the Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and then to work as a Senior Registrar and Consultant at the Royal Free Hospital and the University College Medical School in London. His major research interest is in the Gut-Brain Axis and epidemiology and psychosocial and physical interactions in chronic gastrointestinal diseases as well as gastrointestinal endoscopy and quality issues in endoscopy. He frequently lectures and teaches endoscopic procedures to professional bodies and universities throughout Europe. With an extensive lecturing and teaching record he was awarded Best Lecturer of the Year at University of Basel, Medical Faculty, Switzerland, in 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and again 2022. He also was the Runner-up of the Fellow Award NASPGHN (Denver, Co, USA). He is associate Editor of JPGN and responsible for the endoscopy learning zones for ESPGHAN (European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition).
