Alex Richter is a Professor of Clinical Immunology at the University of Birmingham (UoB) and Honorary Consultant Immunologist at the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). As Director of a NHS / trials UKAS accredited laboratory, during the ID pandemic, Alex focused the laboratory to developing a SARS-CoV-2 antibody assay and establishing a community PCR testing facility. She has utilised high quality testing to support a number of research projects investigating seroprevalence and vaccine immunogenicity in health care workers and in cohorts of patients on immunosuppression or with immunodeficiency. Outside COVID research, Alex’s interests include immunodiagnostic development and secondary immunodeficiency; how we can better diagnose and manage patients with immune defects.
