Gerhard Gründer is a psychiatrist and professor at the Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg. He heads the Department of Molecular Neuroimaging at the Cen-tral Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim. After studying medicine in Cologne and train-ing as a specialist in psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Mainz, he spent a research period in the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. From 2004 to 2017 he was Professor of Experimental Neuropsychiatry at the RWTH Aachen University and Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychothera-py and Psychosomatics at the University Hospital Aachen. His research focuses primarily on the neurobiology of mental disorders and molecular and clinical psychopharmacology. He uses functional imaging methods, in particular positron emission tomography (PET).
