Wulf Rössler studied Medicine (1969-1975) and Psychology (1976-1981) at the University of Heidelberg (Germany) and ended his studies with a medical degree (MD) and a psychological degree (MSc). He received his training as a psychiatrist at the Central Institute for Mental health in Mannheim (Germany) with further specialisations in Social Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 1995/96 he was the Deputy Medical Director of the Psychiatric Department at the Central Institute of Mental Health in Mannheim (Germany) Between 1996 and 2013 he was a full Professor of Clinical and Social Psychiatry at the University of Zurich and Director at the Burghölzli Psychiatric University Hospital in Zurich (Switzerland). He was the Chairman of the Medical Board of the Psychiatric University Hospital from 1999 to 2003 and 2009 to 2012. He was the President of the Cantonal Drug Commission until 2009. Between 2009 and 2016 he was the Director of the Zurich Program for Sustainable Development of Psychiatric Services, a comprehensive research program with nine large-scale projects. Between 2009 and 2017 he was an appointed fellow of the Collegium Helveticum, a joint research institute between the University of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH), where he took responsibility for several research projects. Between 2013 and 2017 he was a Senior Professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg (Germany), where he was also appointed as the Head of the Competence Centre for Health. He is currently Professor of Post-Graduation at the University of Sao Paulo and Senior Professor at the Charité University Medicine in Berlin (Germany). He has about 750 publications and 470 entries in PubMed. He published numerous textbooks as editor in the field of emergency psychiatry; psychiatric rehabilitation, social psychiatry, art therapy and prevention of mental disorders. He is the past president of the International Federation of Psychiatric Epidemiology. He has been a member of the EPA Board. He is the Chief Editor of Frontiers in Public Mental health and on the scientific boards of numerous scientific journals
