I currently work in a private university hospital, the Quironsalud university hospital, although for half of my career I was working in a public university hospital, Puerta de Hierro University Hospital. During my career I have been president of the Spanish chapter of the INS, I am currently its secretary, I have been a member of INS globalization, I have been secretary of the Spanish chapter of WIP, president of the Madrid Pain Society and I am currently the vice president of a new pain society in Spain, SEMDOR. Investigational activities have been developed under several action lines: clinical studies —mainly in the field of neurostimulation— and basic investigations —especially in the field of pulsed radiofrequency. As far as clinical studies are concerned, we have thoroughly investigated two fields: electrical parameters management with non-rechargeable and rechargeable systems, as well as the cost-benefit analysis of both. Another stimulation modality that has been studied and developed in our Unit is subcutaneous stimulation, of which we have written an editorial in Neuromodulation, being the most frequently read article in this publication, which is probably the most important one in this therapy. We have also designed a way to locate the leads' exact implantation depth to get the most adequate stimulation level in this therapeutic modality. With reference to pulsed radiofrequency, we have analyzed, on one hand, the possibility to perform a voltage-mediated treatment and the likeliness of producing lesions with this technique.
