Charles Thivolet is Professor of Medicine in Endocrinology and Diabetes at the University Hospital of Lyon France, and Medical Director of the Center for Diabetes DIAB-eCARE of the Hospices Civils de Lyon, a center dedicated to youths and adults with Type 1 Diabetes. Prof. Thivolet received his medical degree and PhD in Immunology at the University Claude Bernard in Lyon, where he completed training in Endocrinology and Diabetes. Prof. Thivolet’s clinical areas of interest include automated insulin infusion systems and prevention of type 1 Diabetes with immune intervention protocols. His basic research was focused on oral tolerance protocols against autoimmune diabetes using the NOD mouse model and studies of human beta cells exposed to glucose and immunostainings of pancreatic tissues from patients issued from the nPOD consortium. As the past president of the French-speaking Diabetes Society (SFD), he has been involved in the organization of diabetes care and reimbursement of telehealth monitoring. Prof. Thivolet has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in international journals.
