Dr. Naoyuki Sato is a geriatrician and has focused on understanding the effects of diabetes/obesity on Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Dr. Sato is a professor and head of the department of aging neurobiology, National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Japan, and a visiting professor at Osaka university graduate school of medicine. Dr. Sato graduated from Osaka university medical school in 1992 and trained as a geriatrician. Dr. Sato received his Ph.D. at Osaka university, where he studied the role of Abeta on AD pathogenesis. After receiving a Japanese society for the promotion of science fellowship, Dr. Sato completed his postdoctoral training in Prof. Gopal Thinakaran’s laboratory in Prof. Sangram Sisodia’s department at the University of Chicago. Since he returned to Japan, Dr. Sato has been focusing on AD pathogenesis from a geriatrician’s viewpoint, i.e., the roles of diabetes/obesity on AD pathogenesis, by developing animal models and analyzing clinical data.
