Dr Miguel O’Ryan is Professor of Microbiology and Mycology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile. He was Vice President for Research and Development of the University of Chile, Director for Research and Development of the Faculty of Medicine, and previously Director of the Microbiology and Mycology Program. He served as the President of the Chilean Infectious Disease Society. His research has focused in two main areas: molecular and clinical aspects of enteric disease, and vaccines. He was the principal investigator for the multinational trial of the human rotavirus vaccine. He is part of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) and President of the International Scientific Committee for the World Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (WSPID). He has been/is International Editor of the Journal of Pediatrics, the Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, and the British Medical Journal. Dr O’Ryan is member of the Chilean National Academy of Medicine, Institute of Chile. During the Covid-19 Pandemic he has been member of Advisory Committees to the Chilean Health Ministry and Ministry of Science and Technology, and worked on vaccine trials and epidemiological studies, published in prestigious journals such as Clinical Infectious Diseases and Lancet Infectious Diseases.
