Adrian O’Malley has worked in the disability sector for nine years and has 16 years of lived experience of Stroke. Adrian works as a peer facilitator and mentor for People with Disability and their informal support network. He has previously worked as a Support Coordinator assisting People with Disability to understand, implement and use their National Disability Insurance Scheme, NDIS, plan effectively. Adrian is also a participant in the NDIS. As a survivor of stroke, Adrian served six years on the Stroke Foundation Consumer Council and has a prominent national profile, raising awareness of stroke and the challenges faced by young survivors of stroke, their carers, and families. Adrian communicates with different stakeholder groups (people living with or affected by stroke, health professionals, researchers, and policy makers) about what individuals can do to improve lives after stroke. Adrian has worked extensively with researchers to co-design resources to achieve better research outcomes and collaborate more effectively with People with Disabilty. When not advocating for Stroke, Adrian is a passionate horticulturist, brewer, bird nerd, and bushwalker - who loves to watch live music. He also has an extensive collection of native orchids which he will be only too happy to talk about.
