Dr Kurt De Cramer was born in Belgium, in 1962, where he attended primary school. His family later immigrated to South Africa where he completed high school and qualified as a veterinarian at the Faculty of Veterinary Science, Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria, in 1986. He started his veterinary career at a research Laboratory and and later (1992) co-founded the Rant-en-Dal Animal Hospital. In furthering his studies he obtained his Master’s degree MMedVet (Gyn) (theriogenologist) and much later completed his PhD study with caesarean section as theme. He remains in full time private practice focussing on running a busy 8-man small animal practice and reproduction cases. His interests are dog and cat breeding, neonatology and infectious diseases. He remains in close contact with his Alma Mater through collaboration in research projects, education, CE and tries to review and publish also. He actively participates in education to breeders and pet owners on various platforms and collaborates with dog and cat breeder associations. His inquisitive mind compels him to continue making a contribution to the science of dog breeding; constantly researching and solving clinical problems that breeders experience. He has published 2 books on dog breeding.
