Dr. Robert (Rob) McCarthy graduated from Tufts Veterinary School’s first class in 1983, pursued internship and surgery residency training at the University of Minnesota and became certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1993. Although he works primarily with companion small animals, Dr. McCarthy also performs surgery on exotic, wildlife and zoo animals. He has a special interest in reproductive control in both dogs and cats, as well as using alternative sterilization methods for management of feral cat populations. Dr. McCarthy has coordinated a feral cat control program on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands for many years. Dr. McCarthy lives in Grafton, MA with his wife, Paula, a staff member at the Tufts Wildlife Clinic. The couple has two adult children, Sara and Nick, and share their home with two elderly cats and three very elderly dogs. He plays tennis as often as he can and is an avid cyclist and SCUBA diver.
