Jennie has over 30 years’ experience working in the veterinary field and graduated as an Animal Health Technician in 1986. She worked in private practice 3 years then moved to working at the Ontario Veterinary College in 1989, and became a Registered Veterinary Technician at the first seating of the registration exam in 1990. She holds RVT certificate #4. Jennie is currently the only Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dermatology in Canada, and is one of only 11 worldwide at the moment. Over 24 years at OVC saw her working in Large Animal Surgery, third year Surgical Exercises, Ophthalmology, and finally settling in as the dermatology service technician, assisting with the instruction of final year students, in 2000. Over the years, Jennie’s dedication has been recognized several times over and she has the distinction of being the first non-faculty member of the OVC community, to be an honorary class president. When the college decided to close the dermatology service at OVC, Jennie was able to retire, but she quickly teamed up, once again, with Dr. Yu at Yu of Guelph Veterinary Dermatology, in The Guelph Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Jennie is currently a member of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, The Canadian Association of Animal Health Technologists, The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America, she is on the executive committee for The Canadian Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, and is a Charter Member and Regent for the Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians. She is also an accomplished speaker who has spread the good word about dermatology all across North America, as well having authored many journal articles. She shares her life with her husband, their two children, and two four legged friends named Shenzi and Willow. In her spare time, Jennie enjoys hiking, painting, yoga and the adventures of family life.
