Professor Alf Collins is the Co-Chair of the Personalised Care Institute and is NHS England’s Clinical Director. He trained as an anaesthetist with an interest in pain management and became a full time community consultant in pain management in 2000. In parallel, he was a medical educator, local commissioner and researcher and worked for 10 years as clinical associate in person centred care at the Health Foundation. He has undertaken research in measurement in person centred care and authored a number of reviews of shared decision making, self-management support, personalised care and support planning and person centred measurement systems. He has received honorary fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of General Practitioners and a Visiting Professorship from Coventry University for his work in person centred care.
