Session Description:
Antipsychotics are the mainstay of schizophrenia treatment, and based on their effects, they can be categorized as being either activating or sedating. This session will give an overview on activating versus sedating effects, explaining their desirable and adverse consequences. Then, the characteristics of second-generation antipsychotics will be explored in this respect, with a special focus on cariprazine which is generally considered to be an activating substance. Due to activation, cariprazine has the potential to improve negative and cognitive symptoms, prevent sedation, and overall, to facilitate the functional improvement of patients.
Lunch boxes will be provided to all session attendees.
