Dr Pratima Murthy is Director and Senior Professor of Psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India. She was earlier the head of the Department of Psychiatry and the Centre for Addiction Medicine at NIMHANS. Her main body of work is in the area of addiction, human rights of persons with mental illness and the history of psychiatry. She has served as consultant to the WHO, UNODC, ILO and other international organization. Her other areas of interest include integration of physical and mental disorders, post graduate training in psychiatry and policy development.
