Abstract

Abstract Body

During the perinatal period, there is an increased susceptibility to psychic disorders, particularly mood disorders, affecting up to 20% of women and generating a considerable clinical "cost" for the mother - the father - and the developing child. During this period of life, women's brains show a major and specific structural and chemical plasticity, allowing the emotional and interactive adaptation necessary for the development of interactions with the infant. However, the understanding of the neuro-biological basis of peripartum mental illnesses as well as their treatment, including the dimension of interactions with the child, remains very limited. Research suggests that mental illnesses that occur during the perinatal period would have specific neurobiological profiles, which could lead to the development of specific interventions and treatments.
This presentation will review the current knowledge on the effects of antenatal exposure to psychotropic drugs aimed at emotional regulation versus maternal perinatal thymic disorders on the fetus and infant, as well as the development of new specific therapeutics
