Session Description
This Intersectional Symposium entitled “Intersectional Symposium on Classification in Psychiatry: Towards a Person-centered & Neuroscience Informed Classification System” is organized collaboratively between the WPA Section on Classification, Diagnostic Assessments and Nomenclature and the WPA Section on Biological Psychiatry. Presenters are officials of the corresponding Sections (Prof. Thomas Frodl, Chair, WPA Section on Biological Psychiatry and Prof. Ihsan Salloum, Chair, Section on Classification and Prof. Elvia Velasquez, Executive Member, WPA Section on Classification). This symposium will address crucial issues in psychiatric classification and diagnosis. Ihsan Salloum will critically review the two major objectives of psychiatric diagnostic systems and how are met with current international systems of psychiatric diagnosis along with innovative methods and experiences to enhance both objectives. Elvia Velasquez will appraise the clinical utility of ICD-11 as it may be applied across cultural, geographic, and socioeconomic contexts. Thomas Frodl will present a novel, non-invasive, and easy-to-apply dynamic measurement tool and its usefulness based on a diagnostic and therapy prediction study in major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, and healthy controls.
