Session Description
The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many to adapt to what is referred to as the “new norm”. Adjustment and restrictions are imposed in many aspects in life such as daily routines, work culture and social norms. New challenges continue to arise as restrictions and rulings are imposed on social activities, school and childcare centers closure continue, travel bans ensued causing forceful partner separations and familial support cut-off. In general, working women are still expected to maintain their socio-cultural role even as they assume the modern day role as a worker. With the pandemic situation, working women found themselves now juggling with more responsibilities and demands at home and workplace, with varying support levels. Due to this, they may face certain unique struggles and stressors that are different from their male colleagues. The symposium intends to highlight a unique group - the female healthcare workers. Presenters will share their experience and findings pertaining to how the interaction of socio-cultural influence and COVID-19 impact female healthcare workers; the arising mental health issues and remedial actions.
