Session Description
Women react differently to stress than men. On one hand women are biologically more resilient. But on the other hand, they are more vulnerable to psychosocial stress. This vulnerability is illustrated in pregnancy especially in underprivileged groups (Prof Silvia Gaviria). It also is the case in the worldwide raise in domestic and sexual violence especially in these times of pandemics (Prof Victoria Valdez). A core feature in this vulnerability issue is the economical dependency situation in which many women in different cultures find themselves. In many cases fostering economical autonomy in women is a key issue in helping them cope with stress (Prof Rutger Jan van der Gaag)
