Session Description
It has been more than a year of the unprecedented pandemic crisis. As the vaccine rollout has been initiated in many nations, the COVID-19 outbreak is globally threatening spread of its second wave. Besides the immense public health threat, millions of lives lost, global chaos, crippled economies and distanced individuals, the very structure of lives and living have been altered by the outbreak and strategies undertaken to deal with it. Fear of the virus, social stigma, physical distancing, travel restrictions, high person-to-person transmission rate, long-term entrapment within families, risk of sexual violence, increased domestic and substance abuse, as well as socio-economic impoverishment: have all led to fundamental alterations in one of the basic yet essential facet of human existence, i.e., sexuality. These ‘life-changes’ in long-term have affected physical proximity, affective touch and intimacy, thereby influencing the relationship dynamics among billions of couples and families. Though there has been a growing body of research on the psychosocial offshoots of the pandemic, ‘psychosexual health’ has continued to be an under-spoken and stigmatized area in public health.
