The caregivers of patients with schizophrenia play a key role in their recovery yet are often overlooked and unsupported. Understanding the extent of the caregiver burden in schizophrenia and effective interventions to alleviate it would improve the wellbeing of the patients and caregivers. In this symposium, we will examine the experience of a Colombian caregiver and review the multiple dimensions in which schizophrenia affects caregivers. Then, we will discuss effective interventions for caregivers of patients with schizophrenia.
