Abstract

Abstract Body

COVID-19 is the most far-reaching global disaster in nearly a century, exerting a broad range of mental health effects on individuals and communities. Like many public health emergencies, the experience of COVID-19, through physical distancing, stay at home requirements, and resultant community conflicts has created unique risks for certain populations while amplifying existing risks for others. Protecting health in a global pandemic requires the use of public mental health approaches that foster wellness and sustainment before disorders occur. This can be more effectively done by adapting interventions that leverage existing principles and practices from high-risk, high-stress occupations to support the health of communities, such as the healthcare workforce and others.
