Rei Haruyama, MD, MSc, is Assistant Director of Bureau of International Medical Cooperation at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, Japan. She is an obstetrician/gynecologist, having over 15 years’ experience in serving women to improve their health. She earned her MSc in global health policy at the University of Tokyo. Previous positions include Assistant Professor in the Institute of Global Affairs and Attending Physician in the Department of Women’s Health at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan. She has provided technical support to reproductive health- and cancer-related projects in several countries, by supporting the development of clinical guidelines/protocols, organizing training sessions, and conducting monitoring and evaluation. She is currently co-leading a project for improving the quality of cervical cancer services and research on the feasibility and validity of HPV self-sampling in Cambodia.
